instagram henna wine

Top row: Wine at 5th Street Wine and Deli (which also has amazing sandwiches!); my piece at Rosewood Art Center’s ArtEd exhibit among some absolutely amazing work (on display until September 12); my first-ever Dragon’s game (so fun!). Bottom row: Sweet Betsy at the Dublin Pub–their rendition of “Falling Slowly” was so gorgeous; my dear friend’s baby-bump, hennaed by a local artist named Zattana, who did the entire thing free-form (can you spot the baby’s name?); framing up my piece for the Westcott House’s House of Photography exhibit.

Do you have any plans this long weekend? We’ll be visiting family and soaking in the last little bits of summer. Before, though, is today, which looks like it is going to be a very big day for Briana Snyder Photography. There are so many great, new things happening lately, and I’m so excited to share them with you soon!

All photos via Instagram, where I’m @brianasnyder. I certainly hope no one thinks that I share these each week because I think my life is oh-so-exciting (really, most evenings lately were in early watching through Homicide: Life on the Street on Netflix). There are just so many great people in this area (and beyond!) who I happen to encounter each week and who are doing great things, and I like to take a chance to say thank you and show them a little internet love!

personal: texas

While in Texas, we rode on a ferry, and saw a lot of birds. Then we went to a barrel race at the Gulf Coast Cowboy Church. We didn’t get to go to an actual service there, which I would’ve loved, but I really wanted to see some serious “horse business” while we were in Texas, so I was really grateful–and it was SO fun to watch! (I also just learned that there is a rodeo not far at all from my home almost every weekend! An evening at the rodeo might be in order for this fall.) Oh, and the little girl in pink? She had a seatbelt on her saddle, and was just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

dayton family photographer: blake family

The ladies of the Blake family contacted me about having some portraits taken as a surprise for their husband/dad’s 60th birthday–and I always love surprises! They are such a sweet (and ridiculously gorgeous) family. I just love our images from this session–enjoy just a few here and, like always, feel free to click through the “clients” link to see more!

zanesville instagrams

Z’s family lives in Southeastern Ohio, not too far from Zanesville, and, while visiting them last weekened, we did a little bit of exploring. Photos: Weasel Boy Microbrewery; Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl (a ridiculously cute little ice cream shop/diner, supposedly the “Best Place in America to Get a Scoop”); family photo!; picking peaches; donkeys at Georgetown Vineyards, were we spent a leisurely couple hours eating popcorn and drinking Ohio wine; and a tree frog, who kept his eye on us through the window all evening.

And, a special feature, because I went a little nuts with the Instagram when we stumbled into Alan Cottrill’s Sculpture Studio & Gallery. The gallery and studio are both open to the public (with a suggested donation). Downstairs is a bit of a gallery and his studio, where he works and where you can see works in every stage of the sculpture process. Upstairs is a huge gallery–according to his website, over 400 pieces. It is absolutely incredible and, though I have to admit, I’d never heard Alan Cottrill’s name before last Saturday, I would definitely recommend anyone stop in to visit his studio. I’m always so amazed at what people are able to create from nothing.

Have a beautiful weekend!

One of my goals for this year was to enter some of my work into photography contests and exhibits, and I’m so happy to say that a couple of my pieces have been selected to be put on display! One of my photographs will be a part of Rosewood Art Center’s ArtEd exhibition of works by Dayton area art instructors. The show runs from August 27th to September 14th, but this Saturday, the 25th, is the opening reception, from 2-4. During that time there will be a People’s Choice voting, so come on out and maybe vote for my photograph!

I’m also so excited that another of my photos will be a part of the Westcott House’s “House of Photography” exhibition of photographs on the theme of URBAN SPACES: “the elegances, the squalor, the curiosities, the monuments, the sad faces, the triumphant faces, the power, the irony, the strength, the decay, the past, the present, the future of a city” (Berenice Abbott, 1940). That exihibit will run from September 12th to October 30.

Having my photos in shows like this is an entirely new experience for me, and one that I’m totally excited about!

By the way, the photo above isn’t the one in either of these shows–I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise! :)
