One (film) photo from a family session this weekend–whenever possible, I love to sneak “mom and dad” away at the end of a session for just a few shots alone, together.
Happy beautiful, incredibly warm (here in Ohio, at least) Monday!

Julie is an actress who recently moved back to Dayton from Hollywood and needed some plain-and-simple headshots to use for auditions–so, we took some! Meet Julie:
some patterns & textures from my instagram, where you can find me at @snyderb
Last week, in Photography class, we discussed focusing closely on patterns and textures. Finding the geometric patterns in nature and in man-made structures can allow us to look at something in an entirely different way (and easily create some really “artsy,” unique photographs). And, as I told my students, if you want to create some gorgeous original artwork for your wall, all you’ve got to do is find some unique details and textures. Photograph the pattern created by (and texture of) the pile of silverware on your kitchen counter, an old brick wall, the leaves of a tree–anything!
It was so stoked to get to work with Vanity Theft for some new promo shots before they head off on their next tour. Most of their previous pictures had had a more posey, high-fashion vibe, so they were looking for something a little more laid back–and, when I found this location, I knew it would be just perfect. I could’ve shot these ladies in this space all day (except that it was pretty much freezing!). Despite the cold, we got some great shots, and I am thrilled with the final product. If you’re local, check them out tonight at WO Wrights (and have a little listen while you view).
And, last but not least, a Polaroid. Zack got an old camera with 6 shots still in it for $1 in an auction at work–then found NINE more boxes of film in the refrigerator! I sure love me some messy, way-expired Polaroid goodness:
I got to spend an afternoon photographing (and reading Follow the Drinking Gourd with) this beautiful family this weekend. Meet the H kids!
