Franklin Park Conservatory

Last weekend, to celebrate our anniversary, the Mister and I headed to Columbus. We didn’t even realize that it was the “Experience Columbus Days” weekend when we planned our trip, but there were all kinds of restaurant and attraction discounts going on, including half-off admission to the Franklin Park Conservatory. Neither of us had ever been before. It is really beautiful. All kinds of plants, art and Chihuly in every room. Totally worth a visit. And I couldn’t resist taking a few photos while we were exploring–here are just a few.

Dayton Engagement Photographer: Kristen & Nick

Kristen & Nick’s engagement session was a celebration of their love–for coffee, for books, for nature and, most of all, for each other. From the way Nick looks at Kristen, you can just tell how much he cares for her. I can’t wait for their wedding next fall! But, luckily, I’ll get to see them again before then, at Melissa & Trevor’s wedding–Kristen found me through Melissa, one of her best friends and bridesmaids.

Kristen & Nick’s engagement session also felt like a celebration of Dayton. For their photos, we went to Bonnett’s Book Store in the Oregon DistrictHills & Dales MetroPark, and Boston Stoker Coffee, all to celebrate things that have been important parts of their love story. And, all within less than 10 minutes of my house. Can’t beat that! Our little town gets a bad rap sometimes, but, really, I feel so lucky to live somewhere that has so much to offer.

Congratulations, you two! And you can view the entire session and order prints, if you’d like, here.

Film: Swingin’

Kids swinging

The last few shots from a roll of film that I finished up during a recent shoot.

I so love shooting film, but I’m afraid I’ve been spoiled by the immediacy of digital. As soon as we finished our shoot, I went straight to my photolab–I just couldn’t stand the thought of waiting days and days to see the images. But, every time, as soon as I do see them, I always wish I could shoot film more regularly, if not exclusively. There is just something about it I love!

Happy Wednesday!

Dominion Academy’s Blessing of the Animals

Blessing of the animals

In rememberance of St. Francis of Assisi, Dominion Academy held its first annual Blessing of the Animals yesterday (information about the service can be found here), and I stopped by with my camera. It was a lot fun–and the animals were so cute! The pictures I took are now available for viewing online, here.

One Whole Year

So, exactly one year ago yesterday, this happened…

Briana-&-Zack305(our wedding photography by the ever-awesome Jon Morton)

…and what an absolutely wonderful, amazing year it has been. We’ve accomplished things that I never would have imagined we would after only a year of marriage. We’re defining what our family, and our lives, will look like. And, more than anything, I’ve been incredibly blessed to be married to such a wonderful man who takes care of me, no matter how busy my schedule, and who loves me, even when I might be acting a little nutty. Here’s to (at least) 49 more, babe–according to grandpa, we’ve got to make it that far, because “that’s the only other time you’ll get a anniversary card.”

And, it has now been a year, and I’ve never really shared much from our wedding. It was such a joyful and personal day that I’ve been unsure of the right way to talk about it. But, since a decent chunk of the people reading this blog are planning their own weddings, and because we took care of almost every detail ourselves, I thought it might be nice to, at the very least, pass along a bit of what I learned through the process. So, starting in the next couple week’s, I’ll be posting a series of “Snapshots from Our Wedding.” I’ll share some photos, talk about how and why we made the decisions that we did, and maybe even post some how-to’s on the different DIY elements we incorporated into our day.

Are there particular parts of the day or details you’d be interested in hearing about? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Happy Monday, all–and happy anniversary, babe!
